Mumbai, 20 September: Actress Priyanka Chopra, who became a global UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2016 and has been associated with the organization for nearly 15 years, recently spoke about the rights of children at a conference held at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. The actress shared a few pictures from the event on her Instagram where she can be seen posing with Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai and American poet Amanda Gorman. She captioned the photos and the video, “As a proud representative of UNICEF, I love to arrive at the United Nations this morning to speak for the second time at the UNGA.”

Highlighting the UN agenda for the year 2022, he further wrote, “At the top of this year’s agenda is the Sustainable Development Goals. Today was a day about action, ambition and hope. To turn the SDGs into reality We must work together, and we don’t have a moment to lose. Special thanks to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for inviting me.”

He also talked about the importance of education for children – something that is the birthright of every child. “The second one I had the privilege of attending was the Transforming Education Summit. It is hard to believe that almost 2/3 of children in low middle and high income countries cannot read and understand. The system has failed them.”

“As the US Secretary of Education Seccadorna put it very clearly, education is essential for all, but if we keep doing what we have done, we will get what we have got. We give this basic birthright to every child. give, an equal chance to learn and reach one’s full potential (sic).”

The actress ended with Gorman’s words, after which she posed for a picture with Malala. And as the incredible Amanda Gorman said, “I challenge you to shape our destiny. Above all, I challenge you to do good, so that the world can be great.”
